Step 2 – Copy the install files from DVD or mounted ISO to the USB drive Your drive is now formatted and marked bootable. Replace the number “4” with the number of your disk below. Format the drive by typing the next instructions into the same window. I’ll assume that the USB flash drive is disk 4. The number of your USB drive will listed. Find the drive number of your USB Drive by typing the following into the Command Prompt window, “diskpart”.Open a command prompt as administrator (Right click on Start > All Programs > Accessories > Command Prompt and select “Run as administrator”.Step 1 – Format / create boot partition on the USB flash drive Windows 7 or Windows 2008 R2 install disc or mounted ISO file.Be careful not to install it on a separate partition which contains any backups or personal files. NOTE: If your hard disk is split up into several partitions you will need to choose the one on which Windows was installed previously. This improves performance and uses less disk space. This will wipe your hard drive and is the best choice for most people as it doesn’t carry across all the detritus (and potentially viruses and malware) from your old Windows installation. If you’re asked if you want to upgrade or do a fresh (clean) installation, choose the latter if possible. Keep following the on-screen prompts to install Windows. Just make sure you pick the right settings. When you get your computer to boot from the disc or USB drive, it should first present an option to choose the language and maybe also the exact version to install. If not, you’ll need toĮnter the BIOS and change the boot order to prioritise the DVD drive or USB drive.

Now power on the PC and it should boot from the disc or drive. Then shut down your computer and insert your USB flash drive (or DVD).
